On a warm October day, a whimsical love story with subtle fluttering details of butterflies and sprigs of lavender symbolize devotion and virtue for Allie and Tyler’s intimate backyard wedding.
The Story
Tyler and I met working together at McAlister’s Deli. He actually did my interview, so that may have had something to do with me getting the job. We had an instant connection.
The Proposal
We took a day trip to Ocracoke Island in the Outer Banks for some hiking and camping. At the end of a long hike, he asked me to look for something in the backpack, but instead I found a ring box. When I opened it, it was empty, but then I turned around and he was on one knee to propose!
The Dress
I’m still in love with it. I knew all the elements I wanted in my head (long sleeves, open back, high neckline, ivory), and when I came across it on Etsy I just knew. It was romantic and a modern vintage look, which is exactly what I love.
First Look
Yes we did! And I am so happy we did. I was getting extremely nervous as the ceremony got closer, so this helped release a lot of that anxiety and ground me in the moment.
Favorite Moment
My favorite moment was our vows at the ceremony. They were so special. Plus Tyler surprised me with the bullhorn bit from The Office, which was amazing.
Covid-19 altered Wedding Plans
At first, we were devastated. In the end, I’m happy that it was delayed because we had tons of time to plan and prepare, plus I like my fall date better than my spring date. It was hard to have the planning extend for such a long time though – it consumed our lives for too long. It is quite the relief when the decision making was finally over!
Advice for future couples planning their wedding
I would remind them to have fun with it. I know it’s stressful and you will be upset by things along the way (and you have every right to be), but it is a happy time and it’s important to remember that! And let go of the idea of perfection. Nothing will ever be perfect, and that’s just a part of it. “Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good” 🙂
