If you’re going to have a wedding, why not include some tributes to your favorite movies? That’s exactly what Meghan and Jonathan did when they tied the knot in a wildly entertaining wedding at the Mill at Fine Creek in Powhatan, VA. From the Godzilla vs King Kong invites, movie poster center pieces, to the billboard seating chart, and snacks galore, this wedding was filled with personality and definitely spoke to who they are as a couple.
The Story
We both met at a mutual friend’s party. I noticed him and was like “wow”. It took a year from then to have our first date. During that year we got to know each other better. With some encouragement from friends, Jonathan asked me out on our first date.
The Proposal
We had just gotten off a night river cruise on the Danube in Budapest, Hungary. It was raining and dark and we were strolling along the river, and I kept slipping because my shoes had no traction and he kept saving me and holding me up. This continued for some time, me slipping and him catching me. We reach one of the city squares and he tells me his phone is not working and can I look up directions back to our apartment. As I am looking down, he got down on one knee when I wasn’t looking and said, “hey Meghan I have a question” very nonchalantly. I turn around to hear what his question is and there he is proposing to me. I felt simultaneous shock and joy at the same time and answered him before he even got a chance to finish his sentence.
The Dress
I’m never particularly attached to clothes so I was looking for a simple dress that I could feel myself in. I found it on a clearance rack at David’s Bridal. It served me well and I am now looking to donate it, so another woman can enjoy it.
Favorite Moment
I loved goofing off in the creek with my husband and the wedding party. I also loved that we rented an outdoor movie theater screen and had a movie night with our guests with a popcorn machine, movie candy, milkshakes, and an open bar.
Advice for future couples planning their wedding
I highly recommend making to-do lists and assigning deadlines for the list items. I never honestly felt overwhelmed because I handled everything at a steady place. Secondly, research your vendors and make sure you feel comfortable and know the reviews. I loved all of my vendors so much. They made our day so great.
