These river city transplants fell in love with Richmond’s quirky southern charm and showed cased all that RVA has to offer in their amazing Memorial Weekend wedding. Story as told by the bride and groom with photos as documented by Awesomesauce Photography.
The Story
RVA mutual friends introduced us at Banditos Burrito Lounge over 6 years ago.
The Proposal
I made Matty watch the Sex and the City movie and he was a trooper to make it through the whole movie. When Carrie is helping big with his vows she tells him to say “I will love you”, it’s simple and to the exact point of the day. I remember commenting to Matty how sweet I thought that was. And then at the end big proposes to Carrie alone in her dream closet. Once that scene was over I was crying telling him I that I thought it was so sweet and personal because it was just a moment the two of them had. Fast forward to April 1st. I went out to walk our German Shepard Ziggy and came back to find the whole house dark. I walked into the bedroom and saw he had written I will love you on the mirror. I thought it was just perfect and will be a moment I’ll remember for the rest of my life.
The Dress
I just loved this dress from the moment I saw it at Mila Bridal (Olivia Kay Collection). I was with one of my bridesmaids and it was on the mannequin when I told her how much I liked it. She asked me if I wanted her to get it from the mannequin and I said no bc I didn’t want to create work for the girls who were helping (who had already pulled 7 dresses from the racks that I hadn’t even tried on yet. After trying on my second dress and not being completely happy with it, Ashley asked them to take it down. it was the third dress and it was instantly the one. It was also a two-piece dress so I could take the skirt off to wear it as a short dress! Tip- I bought the top that I got from the mannequin because it was a sample size. Although it still needed to have alterations, it saved me 600$! Also I used Sandy’s alterations on Libby. She is INCREDIBLE!!!!
Favorite Moment
The first look! I loved being able to share that special moment of seeing each other for the first time!
Advice for future couples planning their wedding
Do a little at a time so you aren’t stressing. Make a schedule and list time frames you want to have projects completed and stick to it! You will enjoy the planning process so much more when you aren’t stressed about finishing things! Also do the boring stuff first so that you can do the fun things later. Let your bridesmaids help you …even if you are a control spaz, some of the best memories I have from 2016 were hanging with my friends doing random wedding planning!
