Brittany & Shane put so many personal touches into their rock and roll wedding… and it shows. From the favorite band centerpieces to the his and hers snack packs and hangover kits, this Rock n Roll wedding at The Renaissance in Richmond, VA was a night to remember.
The Story
My coworker asked me to join her River City Dodgeball team as an excuse to drink and take out my aggression on strangers. It so happened that Shane was on that team. We got to talking one night at happy hour, and the rest, as they say, is history!
The Proposal
Shane and I took a New Years Eve trip to DC with my best friend, Kate, and her boyfriend (now fiancé), Pat. We went to a Washington Caps game and then went out on the town to celebrate the new year. Shane got down on one knee in the middle of a bar as the ball dropped to welcome 2020. I honestly didn’t think he was serious until I turned around and saw Kate crying (he had told her about it a month earlier). I was still in shock but managed to say yes!
The Dress
I found it at Bridal Elegance in Short Pump. I went with my mom, his mom, his sister, and my friend, Gaby. I didn’t want a big, showy dress – just something pretty that I could move around in. I found “the one” on that first trip!
First Look
We did see each other. We lived together already so it would’ve been tricky to get away. My parents put us up at The Jefferson Hotel on the night of the wedding, but the hotel had a 2 night minimum so they decided to let us stay there the night before the wedding, too. It was kind of nice to spend a quiet morning together before all of the craziness got started.
Favorite Moment
I loved listening to the toasts made by my dad, the maid of honor, and the best man. They were all so good and so special, and every dang one of them made me cry!
How COVID-19 impacted the wedding
Covid-19 was not fun to deal with! I had to re-plan a lot of things, and come to terms with several of our loved ones not being there. It was a hug bummer that Covid kept so many guest away but we understood. We considered postponing until next year, but ultimately decided to go ahead after the venue provided clear and amazing evidence of how they’ve gone above and beyond to be cautious and make everyone’s safety a top priority. My wedding pictures will have some masks in them, but at least mine was a cute bridal mask!
