Wolf Trap Farm in Gordonsville, Virginia was the perfect setting to throw back margaritas and beers with a few hundred of Kelly and Case’s closest friends and family. The live band was jamming so strong that you didn’t even notice the raging rainy weather that pounded the night sky.
The Story
We went to high school together! We first really hung out at a friend’s lake house the week of graduation. He was my first beer pong partner and we had so much fun. Then we went to separate colleges. He went to JMU and I went to Holy Cross all the way up in Massachusetts. After graduation, all of our friends were hanging out at a bar and he walked up to me, asked if I was home for good and if I wanted to go out to dinner with him. We went on that date and it immediately clicked!
The Proposal
I was SO surprised! His parents have a lake house in North Carolina and we were headed down there for the weekend. We went out on our old pontoon boat that he built for us and stopped at our favorite spot (a little sandy island in the middle of the lake) to hang out and play with the dogs. I was sitting on the edge of the pontoon, he was in the water, and he asked me to grab him a beer from the cooler. I turned around to grab him one and when I turned back around he had a ring in his hand and asked me to marry him! I was so shocked that I immediately yelled “OMG WHAT ARE YOU DOING”. I’m pretty sure he had a mild heart attack. After I realized what was going on, of course I immediately said yes!
The Dress
I wore a strapless, lacy dress. I got it from Jeanette’s Bridal in Manassas, VA. I didn’t really know what I wanted but I quickly found out that I love lace. My mom was super surprised by that one, because I’m not typically very girly. But as soon as I tried it on I loved it!
First Look
We didn’t see each other or speak to each other before the wedding. I even had to leave the house that he was staying in at midnight the night before because it was technically the wedding day! Case wanted the first time he sees me to be when I walked down the aisle and that was a good decision I think because it made the ceremony really special.
Favorite Moment
Our friends and family! We basically just wanted it to be a big party where everybody had a laid back, awesome time. Our friends and family, paired with our amazing band, The Jump Cut, made it happen for us.
Advice for future couples planning their wedding
Don’t stress about the small things that don’t really matters. At the end of the day, all that matters is that you guys have a great time celebrating the start of your lives together.
