When should I get maternity photos done?
I recommend scheduling your session towards the beginning of your 3rd trimester. Remember we want to capture the beautiful curves of pregnancy in these photos but not so late in your pregnancy that you are too uncomfortable to move and pose. On the opposite end, we don’t want to schedule the session too late that we risk an early arrival of the baby either.
Can my partner or children be in the photos?
Yes, of course! Any family members may join the photo shoot.
How do I prepare for the session?
Not too much preparation is required on your part, but here are some pointers to help you look your best:
What about my stretch marks or other imperfections on my skin?
With computer software, I work hard to edit out stretch marks and skin imperfections. However, if you would like them to remain natural then please tell me before the end of the session.
What should I wear?
Clothing for maternity photo shoots should be tight-fitting around the belly. Loose and baggy shirts and pants will only hide the pregnant stomach. Stretch pants that have low waistlines won’t bunch up as the woman is posing or sitting, and are a good idea to wear during a shoot. In addition, tight-fitting tank tops and maternity tops that have thin fabrics that cling to the body are also good choices for maternity portraits. Regular jeans un-buttoned always look good too!
Keep clothing selections for maternity portraits simple. Stripes and busy patterns can detract attention away from your baby bump. I recommend avoiding black on top. Flowy skirts with a stretchy top tend to look timeless. Outfit changes we welcomed as well. Most of all, wear what is comfortable to you.
One of us is sick or can’t make it now. Can a session be rescheduled?
Being a mom myself, I know life can be unpredictable. Please give me as much notice as possible and we will reschedule your session. There is no penalty or charge for sessions that need to be rescheduled. I’m flexible to work with your needs.
Will the photos be public on your website?
I never post any revealing or nude photos publicly on my website or blog. There is a chance that selected photos from your session will be used in my galleries or blogs, unless otherwise specifically requested.
What is the turnaround time to receive my images?
Within 2-3 weeks of your session, your images will be uploaded on the Client Proofing area of my website and I will send you a link with a pin number to access them. If you need them sooner, please discuss with me your needs.
What format will the photos come in?
All your photos will be ready to view in a JPEG format with a print release included.
Do you offer gift certificates?
Yes! Please contact me for more information.
What form of payment do you accept?
Cash, check, Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express are all accepted. Please make checks payable to Awesomesauce Photography, LLC.
Do you photograph births?
Yes, only in the Central Virginia area though. I arrive to your hospital, or birth center, when you are in active labor (usually around 5cm dilated) and I stay until about an hour after your baby is born. I take photos of the labor process, the birth process and first moments after postpartum. I do move around for other vantage points but I’m not there to make it a gory documentary. Instead, I try to capture the raw emotions and the beauty of this blessed event. If there is ever a time that you would not like me to be present or to put the camera down, just say so and I’m happy to step out until you are ready to continue. In the case of a c-section, some doctors will not let me in the operating room. If this should happen unexpectedly, then I will wait until you are returned to your room to continue the session.
Should any complications arise and I miss your child’s birth, the session deposit can be applied to a future photo session.
